Matcha Tea (Usucha)
Preparation Steps

Things you will need:
  • 1 tsp (2g) of Matcha Powder = Around 2 Chashaku scoops

  • 100ml of boiling water

  • Chasen (Bamboo Whisk)

  • Chashaku (Wooden Scoop)

  • Chawan (Tea Bowl)

  • A fine mesh Strainer/Sieve

  • A Tea Cup

Steps:
  1. Pour boiling water into a bowl.

  2. Gently whisk the tip of the Chasen to warm up.

  3. Pour away the water and dry the inside of the bowl with a clean cloth.

  4. Scoop 1 tsp (2 Chashaku scoops) of Matcha powder into a fine mesh strainer over a tea bowl.

  5. Sift the Matcha powder into the tea bowl.

  6. Pour 100ml of boiling water into a tea or measuring cup and let it cool down for 30 - 60secs to reach around 90°C.

  7. Gently add a small amount of water into the tea bowl.

  8. Blend them well.

  9. Pour the remaining hot water into the tea bowl and whisk in "M" or "W" pattern. (Usually 10-15secs, do not whisk too long as heat will be lost during whisking)

  10. Continue to whisk until Matcha has a thick froth with tiny bubbles on the surface.

  11. Finally, use the Chasen to draw a circle and remove it from the center of the tea bowl.

  12. Enjoy!

Matcha Latte Preparation Steps

Things you will need:
  • 1 tsp (2g) of Culinary Matcha Powder = Around 2 Chashaku scoops

  • 1 tsp of sugar (optional)

  • 60ml of hot water

  • 180ml of milk

  • Chasen (Bamboo Whisk)

  • Chashaku (Wooden Scoop)

  • Chawan (Tea Bowl)

  • A fine mesh Strainer/Sieve

  • A Tea Cup

  • Electric Frother / Handheld frother (if no frother, just heat up the milk until small bubbles are formed and pour it directly onto the frothed matcha)

 

 

Steps:
  1. Pour boiling water into a bowl.

  2. Gently whisk the tip of the Chasen to warm up.

  3. Pour away the water and dry the inside of the bowl with a clean cloth.

  4. Scoop 1 tsp (2 Chashaku scoops) of Culinary matcha powder into a fine mesh strainer over a tea bowl.

  5. Sift the Matcha powder into the tea bowl.

  6. Pour 60ml of hot water onto the powder and whisk in “M” or “W” pattern until frothy. (Usually 10-15secs, do not whisk too long as heat will be lost during whisking)

  7. Pour the matcha into the tea cup.

  8. Add 180ml of milk into an electric frother and start to froth. You can also use a handheld frother and froth the milk in a separate cup.

  9. You can add 1 tsp of sugar or to taste. (Optional)

  10. Slowly pour the frothed milk into the tea cup.

  11. Dust some green tea powder onto the matcha latte.

  12. Enjoy!
